Indonesia’s Interpol division at the National Police’s International Affairs Division led the repatriation of Michael Steven from Morocco through an extradition process.
Steven had been arrested by Moroccan police on March 12, 2026, based on a request from Indonesia’s NCB Interpol secretariat. Morocco approved Indonesia’s extradition request on June 12, 2026.
The handover took place in Morocco on June 20, and Steven arrived in Indonesia on June 21.
Steven is a suspect in a case involving alleged capital market crimes, fraud, embezzlement, and money laundering, handled by the Directorate of Special Economic Crimes at Indonesia’s National Police headquarters. Alleged investor losses in the case total around 337.4 billion Indonesian rupiah (176,227,630.18 DH).
The extradition involved coordination between the National Police’s Divhubinter, Indonesia’s Ministry of Law, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Moroccan authorities.
“This extradition demonstrates the effectiveness of international police cooperation through the Interpol network and the support of relevant agencies. The National Police remain committed to pursuing and returning fugitives who flee abroad to face justice,” Widyatmoko said in a written statement on Monday on Tribrata News.
