Northern Morocco has raised wildfire readiness as rising temperatures, dense vegetation and hot easterly winds increase the risk of forest fires, officials responsible for fire management told Hespress.
Authorities are maintaining continuous surveillance, mobilizing personnel and equipment and strengthening early-warning systems as the summer season begins.
Officials said fire-risk maps and digital forecasting models are updated repeatedly during the day to track changes in temperature, wind speed and humidity. The system allows teams to identify the most exposed areas and direct field patrols and emergency resources more precisely.
Northern Morocco is particularly vulnerable because of its extensive forest cover and the hot Chergui winds that can accelerate fires.
Forestry services, Civil Protection, local authorities and the Royal Gendarmerie are coordinating preparedness measures.
A recent large-scale drill near Tangier tested the response to an uncontrolled forest fire, including the deployment of Canadair water-bombing aircraft.
Heavy rainfall has improved vegetation growth after years of drought but has also created more combustible material.
