Temperatures could reach 44 degrees Celsius across parts of Morocco this weekend, while winds of up to 85 kph are expected near Tangier, the General Directorate of Meteorology said Friday.
An orange alert covers Sept. 12–13, with highs of 40–44°C forecast in provinces including Marrakech, Fez, Kenitra, Tata, Taroudant, Beni Mellal, Settat and Smara.
Other areas, including Rabat, Salé, Agadir, Meknes and El Jadida, could record 36–40°C, meteorology spokesman Houcine Youabed said.
Winds of 75–85 kph are forecast in Fahs-Anjra and Tangier-Assilah over the same period, with gusts elsewhere potentially raising dust.
Localized showers or thunderstorms are possible over the Atlas Mountains, southeast, southern Oriental region and northern Saharan provinces. Low coastal clouds could also bring drizzle or light rain.
Daytime temperatures are expected to begin easing Wednesday. The directorate urged residents to follow official forecasts and warning updates as heat, wind and thunderstorm conditions develop over the coming days nationwide.
