Police in Fez arrested a man suspected of involvement in cocaine trafficking on Monday afternoon during an operation carried out by the anti-gang brigade of the Fez police prefecture.
The arrest was conducted on the Aïn Chkef road based on intelligence provided by Morocco’s General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST). According to local media reports, the suspect was the subject of a national arrest warrant linked to alleged trafficking in hard drugs.
Following the arrest, investigators carried out a search of the suspect’s residence, where they reportedly seized more than 600 grams of cocaine.
Police also recovered more than 50,000 dirhams in cash, including sums in euros and U.S. dollars. Investigators suspect the money may be connected to proceeds from drug trafficking activities.
During the search operation, officers discovered a 15-year-old girl inside the apartment. According to the preliminary findings, the suspect was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the minor’s presence at the residence.
Authorities have incorporated this aspect of the case into the ongoing judicial investigation in order to clarify the circumstances and determine whether any additional offenses may have been committed.
The competent public prosecutor’s office ordered that the suspect be placed in police custody pending further investigation.
Investigators are continuing their inquiries under the supervision of the prosecution to determine whether the suspect was operating independently or as part of a broader criminal network.
The investigation also seeks to identify any additional individuals who may have participated in or facilitated the alleged trafficking activities.
