Hot to very hot weather is expected to persist across much of Morocco in the coming days, particularly in inland and southern regions, while coastal areas will experience milder conditions under the influence of humid Atlantic air masses, according to the country’s meteorological agency.
Houssine Youabeb, head of communications at Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology, said the weather pattern this week is being shaped by the interaction of several atmospheric systems affecting the country simultaneously.
A Saharan thermal low-pressure system continues to deepen over southern and eastern Morocco, drawing hot air northward and contributing to rising daytime temperatures, especially in the southeast, the Eastern Region, inland plains and the southern provinces, Youabeb said.
At the same time, the Azores High remains positioned over the Atlantic Ocean west of Morocco, pushing moist maritime air toward the country’s Atlantic coastline. The system is helping to moderate temperatures in coastal areas and maintain more comfortable conditions compared with the interior.
The meteorological official said the highest temperatures are expected in southeastern Morocco, the interior parts of the southern provinces, the Eastern Region and several inland plains, where the influence of the Saharan low-pressure system remains strongest.
By contrast, the Atlantic coast and Mediterranean shoreline are expected to benefit from cooler, moisture-laden air, leading to the formation of low clouds, fog and localized drizzle during nighttime and early morning hours.
Weather instability is also forecast over the Atlas Mountains and parts of eastern Morocco, where warm air near the surface interacting with colder air aloft could generate cumulonimbus clouds and localized thunderstorms, particularly during the afternoon and evening.
Moderate to occasionally strong winds are expected in southeastern regions, the southern provinces and eastern parts of the country, with localized dust storms possible in exposed areas.
According to the meteorological agency, the weather pattern reflects typical summer conditions in Morocco, characterized by a sharp contrast between hot inland regions and milder coastal zones due to the simultaneous influence of Saharan thermal lows and the Azores High pressure system.
