Commitments by the African Development Bank (AfDB) in Morocco reached a record nearly €1.3 billion in 2025, reflecting the depth of the strategic partnership between the Kingdom and the Bank, according to the AfDB’s country manager for Morocco, Achraf Tarsim.

Speaking to MAP on the sidelines of the AfDB Annual Meetings in Brazzaville, Tarsim said the financing covers key sectors including infrastructure, governance, entrepreneurship, agriculture, and green transition.

He noted that €420 million was allocated to infrastructure and connectivity, notably for the modernization of airports in Marrakech, Agadir, Tangier, and Fez, while €150 million was earmarked for local infrastructure projects through the Municipal Infrastructure Fund.

The AfDB official also highlighted €182 million in support for governance and economic resilience, €119 million for entrepreneurship and small businesses, and €100 million for inclusive agriculture and rural entrepreneurship.

He further pointed to the recent approval of €200 million for the “Cap Competences 2030” program aimed at improving youth and women employability and aligning skills with labor market needs.

In the area of green transition, Tarsim underscored the signing of a €450 million partial credit guarantee for OCP Group to help mobilize green financing for low-carbon industrial projects.

Themed “Mobilizing Africa’s Development Financing at Scale in a Fragmented World,” the 2026 AfDB Annual Meetings bring together more than 3,000 participants, including Heads of State and Government, ministers of finance and planning, central bank governors, private sector leaders, representatives of international financial institutions, philanthropists, civil society actors, and academics.
