Moroccan police handled 13,337 criminal cases linked to violence and crime in and around schools during the 2024 2025 academic year, up 64 percent compared with 2021 2022, according to police data presented Tuesday in Rabat.
The cases led to the arrest of 13,428 people, compared with 8,784 arrests tied to 8,150 cases three years earlier, said Redouane Ghazal, head of statistics and strategic analysis at the judicial police directorate of the General Directorate of National Security.
The figures were presented during a conference on school security held as part of Morocco’s national police open days event in Rabat.
Drug related offenses represented a major share of cases. Police recorded 5,300 cases linked to drug consumption and trafficking around schools during the 2024 2025 academic year, compared with 2,909 in 2021 2022.
Authorities said most drug trafficking around schools involved individuals with no direct connection to educational institutions, while some school dropouts had become involved in theft, assaults and other crimes targeting students and teachers.
Police also cited cases involving violence against students and educators, school break ins and the distribution of drugs and psychotropic pills near educational institutions.
According to police data, violent offenses represented between 4 and 8 percent of total arrests linked to school environments.
Security officials said the rise in cases over recent years reflected the emergence of increasingly visible forms of delinquency around schools, including assaults, drug trafficking and the exploitation of minors, prompting closer coordination between police, schools and local authorities.
