Nabil Lahlou, one of Morocco’s most prominent theatre directors and playwrights, has died at the age of 81 after a long artistic career that left a distinctive mark on both theatre and cinema in Arabic and French.

Among his latest projects was a theatrical work reflecting on his personal and artistic journey, from his early fascination with cinema and theatre to encounters with social and administrative censorship, love, and the later years of his life.
