Morocco will step up its presence at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, combining official selections with a broader push to position its film industry on the global market, according to the Moroccan Cinematographic Center.

From May 12 to 20, the country will take part in the Marché du Film, a key industry platform for co production deals and international partnerships. The Moroccan pavilion will host local and foreign professionals, as part of efforts to promote national production and attract international shoots.

Moroccan cinema will also feature across several festival sections. Leïla Marrakchi returns to Cannes with “La Mas Dulce” in Un Certain Regard, marking her first appearance on the Croisette since “Marock” in 2005.

Newer voices are also present. Saïd Hamich Benlarbi will screen his film in the Directors’ Fortnight, while Ismaël El Iraki will present a new project to international investors.

Beyond screenings, the strategy is commercial. Morocco is positioning itself as a competitive filming hub, highlighting infrastructure, skilled crews and incentive programs such as cash rebates that have helped attract foreign productions.

A French film partly shot in Morocco will also feature in the official lineup, underscoring continued international confidence.

The mix of festival visibility and market activity reflects a dual approach: promoting Moroccan storytelling while strengthening the country’s role in global production networks.
