Morocco has cancelled its planned June 3 friendly against El Salvador in the United States, citing an inability to field a full squad, according to correspondence from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation and confirmation from Salvadoran Federation president.
In a letter dated April 21, the FRMF said recent club competitions in Europe and Asia, along with domestic calendar changes and player injuries, would leave the national team without at least a third of its expected squad ahead of the FIFA international window.
As a result, Morocco informed El Salvador it could not travel to the United States for the match scheduled in Maryland and instead proposed hosting the fixture on June 2 in Rabat, offering to cover travel and local costs.
El Salvador declined the proposal. Federation president Yamil Bukele said on X the team could not shift continents during the same FIFA window due to existing commitments and regulatory constraints.
“We received official correspondence from the Moroccan federation… they would not be able to count on their full squad,” Bukele said, adding that while the offer to play in Morocco was appreciated, it was not feasible under FIFA scheduling rules.
