French-Moroccan actress Nadia Farès passed away on Friday evening in Paris at the age of 57, following a swimming pool accident that left her in a coma.
Her daughters Celia and Chana Chassman announced her death in an emotional statement, describing her as “a great artist who left her own mark on cinema.”
The incident occurred on April 11, when Farès was found unconscious at the bottom of a private club pool in Paris’s 9th arrondissement.
Witnesses reportedly noticed her in what appeared to be a yoga-like position underwater before emergency services were called. She was taken to hospital and placed in an induced coma, before her condition deteriorated and she passed away.
Born in Marrakech in 1968, Farès became one of the prominent faces of French cinema from the 1990s onwards. She appeared in notable films including Crimson Rivers and The Nest, as well as the Netflix series Marseille, and worked alongside acclaimed directors such as Alexandre Arcady and Claude Lelouch.
