Mustapha Baitas said Thursday that Morocco has made education reform a strategic priority, emphasizing that social progress cannot be achieved without improving the quality of schooling.

Speaking at the weekly press briefing following the cabinet meeting, Baitas outlined a series of reforms aimed at overhauling the education system, including curriculum revisions, stabilizing human resources, and mobilizing significant financial investments.

He said the government created 90,000 jobs in the education sector between 2021 and 2025, while 108,561 employees received promotions between 2021 and 2024. The reforms also included integrating education workers into the public service system and introducing a standardized salary structure.

Among key measures, the government established a new top-grade rank for certain categories, particularly primary school teachers, whose career progression had previously been capped.

Baitas added that approximately 330,000 public employees benefited from a net salary increase of 1,500 dirhams, at a total cost of 9 billion dirhams, alongside additional allowances for hundreds of thousands of workers.

The government has also significantly increased the education budget to nearly 100 billion dirhams, underscoring its commitment to making the sector a national priority.

Separately, Baitas highlighted the importance of a teachers’ forum organized by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Social Works of Education and Training, describing educators as the cornerstone of the education system. The event includes seminars and workshops aimed at fostering dialogue among stakeholders and strengthening the sector.

On transport subsidies, Baitas said the government continues to support the sector amid rising global energy prices, with the goal of maintaining stable fares and protecting household purchasing power.

As of March 25, 2026, authorities had received 67,951 applications covering 95,660 vehicles under the digitized subsidy system, with files currently under review, he said.
