Morocco’s Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs said on Thursday that Eid al Fitr would begin on Friday, March 20, after the Shawwal crescent was sighted across the kingdom.
In a statement, the ministry said it had monitored the moon after sunset through religious officials and Royal Armed Forces units involved in the sighting process, and that they confirmed visibility of the crescent.
The announcement means Ramadan lasted 29 days in Morocco this year, with Friday corresponding to 1 Shawwal 1447 in the Hijri calendar.
Hespress English extended its greetings to readers on the occasion of Eid al Fitr, wishing you a blessed holiday.
