Morocco’s Tangier Med and Casablanca ports ranked among the top Arab ports in a global shipping connectivity index covering 71 Arab ports and more than 930 ports worldwide, the Arab Investment and Export Credit Guarantee Corporation said in a sector report.
The Kuwait based institution said in its fourth quarter 2025 report on Arab maritime transport that the region had attracted 146 foreign projects in the sector over the past 23 years, with total investment close to $4 billion.
It said the Arab commercial fleet grew 4% in 2025 to 2,900 vessels based on beneficial ownership, while carrying capacity rose 4.6% to about 109 million metric tons deadweight, equivalent to 5% of global shipping volume.
Arab ports handled more than 423 million metric tons of goods unloaded in 2023, while loaded cargo reached 1.6 billion metric tons, or 14% of the global total, the report said.
