Casablanca authorities have ordered Gate 4 at the city’s port to open overnight to ease congestion after transport professionals protested against delays and worsening working conditions inside the port.

A prefectural order issued by Anfa authorities, under instructions from Casablanca-Settat Wali Mohamed Mhidia, allows trucks to use Gate 4 from midnight until 7 a.m.

The measure is intended to reduce pressure inside the port and on roads leading to it, including FAR Avenue and Moulay Ismail Avenue.

The order is binding on public administrations, port operators and contractors working inside Casablanca port. Port authorities were instructed to monitor implementation, while security services will oversee traffic and circulation inside the port.

The decision follows a May 25 meeting at the regional wilaya on management problems affecting the port.
