Morocco has been ranked 42nd in the world among the 50 safest countries to visit in 2026, according to the HelloSafeglobal index. The kingdom scored 73.25 points, making it the safest destination on the African continent, ahead of Tunisia, which scored 72.9.
Globally, the top three safest countries were Iceland with 92.4, Switzerland with 91.1, and Norway with 90.85. Conversely, Malaysia, Romania, and Bulgaria ranked among the 50 least safe countries, with scores of 70.95, 70.40, and 69.80, respectively.
In the MENA region, Israel led with a score of 78.3 (29th globally), followed by Bahrain in 36th, Qatar in 37th with 75.1, and the United Arab Emirates in 38th with 74.95.
The index evaluated countries based on factors including public safety and crime, political stability, health security, cybersecurity, and environmental risk. It also considered climate exposure, healthcare system strength, and digital security—factors increasingly critical to travelers.
Morocco’s ranking follows reports highlighting its rise as a leading destination for tourism and investment in Africa. In 2025, the kingdom became the continent’s most visited country, benefiting from a thriving tourism sector, a strong safety record, and growing international investment.
According to available data, Morocco’s crime rate is comparable to Sweden, and the Global Peace Index places the country ahead of the United States, China, and India in terms of overall safety.
