Moroccan authorities have begun withdrawing certain infant formula batches from the market after an international health alert over the possible presence of cereulide, a toxin produced by Bacillus cereus, according to local reporting citing the Moroccan Agency for Medicines and Health Products and the food safety agency ONSSA.
ONSSA ordered the importing company to carry out an immediate recall, while some batches were seized and stored pending destruction, with withdrawal and return operations still under way, the reports said. Moroccan pharmacists were also notified that the measure applies nationwide and is being implemented as a precaution across the kingdom.
The move follows a broader international wave of infant formula recalls tied to cereulide concerns, including large scale withdrawals by Nestlé in Europe earlier this year.
