The General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR) has denied claims published by a Spanish newspaper alleging that ten Spanish inmates in Moroccan prisons were subjected to “inhumane detention conditions,” asserting that the allegations are unfounded and that all inmates enjoy their full rights in line with established standards.

In response to reports from families of seven inmates at the Tetouan Local Prison regarding “denied transfer requests,” the DGAPR clarified that decisions on transfers do not fall within its administrative jurisdiction.

Nevertheless, it confirmed that the seven prisoners had formally submitted their transfer requests.

Regarding medical care, the authority stated that one inmate suffering from a digestive disorder receives an appropriate diet, has undergone 12 medical check-ups, and has been taken to a hospital twice, in addition to receiving mental health follow-up and prescribed medication.

The DGAPR also addressed claims of a suicide attempt by another inmate, describing it as “a minor self-inflicted incident with a toothbrush due to personal and family reasons.”

The DGAPR addressed allegations from three inmates at Tangier Local Prison 2, confirming that they have adequate beds and bedding and denying that they sleep on the floor.

Meals are provided according to established dietary standards, and pest control is conducted regularly, most recently on March 5. Two of the inmates participate in nearly daily sports activities, while the third receives regular medical follow-ups, including hospital visits as needed.

The administration also refuted claims of disorganized family visits, explaining that visits are scheduled via an electronic appointment system. Exceptional accommodations are provided for families traveling from abroad.

The statement highlighted that all concerned inmates receive regular visits from their countries’ diplomatic and consular representatives, and no negative observations have been reported.

This statement aims to clarify the facts in response to a media campaign that relied on family statements concerning inmates facing charges related to international drug trafficking.
