A recent satellite imagery from the European Union’s Copernicus program shows a sharp shift in environmental conditions in northern Morocco over the past year, with areas affected by severe drought in February 2025 appearing significantly greener in February 2026.
Data from the Sentinel 3 satellite shows a marked increase in vegetation cover following substantial winter rainfall across several northern regions.
The precipitation helped restore soil moisture and agricultural land that had been heavily affected by prolonged dry conditions during previous seasons.
The rainfall, while improving vegetation and water resources, also triggered localized flooding in some provinces including Kenitra and Larache during recent storms.
National dam storage reached about 11.8 billion cubic meters, according to recent official figures, representing an increase of roughly 155 percent compared with the same period last year.
The overall filling rate of the country’s dams stand at approximately 70.7 percent of total capacity.
