Romanian police said a 24-year-old Moroccan student who was involuntarily hospitalized this month in the city of Iașiwas located after her brother reported her missing earlier that day.
The General Inspectorate of Romanian Police told Hespress English that authorities were notified on Feb. 3, 2026, after the woman’s 20-year-old brother alerted Iași Police Station 3 at about 3 p.m., saying she had voluntarily left their residence around 10 a.m. and had not returned.
Police said officers confirmed she had left the building and later found her the same evening inside a commercial complex in the city. She was described as being lightly dressed at the time.
Authorities requested medical assistance at the scene, and she was transported by ambulance to a local medical facility for evaluation and specialized care, police said.
She was later admitted to the Socola Clinical Psychiatry Hospital.
A source previously cited by Hespress English said the student had displayed what was described as “inappropriate and aggressive behavior” in a public place and refused voluntary admission, prompting authorities to seek a court order for involuntary hospitalization on Feb. 12 in accordance with Romanian law.
According to that source, she was found walking in her pajamas at Palas Mall, where initial assessments raised concerns about possible self-harm or harm to others, meeting the legal threshold for emergency psychiatric intervention.
In a video circulating on social media, the student said she is being held against her will and treated “as though she were mentally unstable,” and called on authorities in Morocco to intervene.
