Authorities ordered a postmortem examination Monday on the bodies of a pregnant woman and her young son who drowned in a water basin in Sidi Bennour, while her daughter was rescued, local judicial Hespress AR sources said.

The incident occurred in Douar El-Qawasem, part of the Bouhmam commune, where the mother was reportedly accompanied by her two children. Police said the three fell into the basin under circumstances that prompted a preliminary judicial investigation by the local judicial police under the direction of the public prosecutor.

Police and forensic teams, along with local officials, responded to the scene. The rescued girl was taken to a hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the mother and her son were recovered by civil protection units and sent for autopsy to assist the ongoing investigation into the deaths.

Authorities have opened an inquiry to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
