Algerian boxer Imane Khelif said she underwent hormone treatment to reduce testosterone levels ahead of the 2024 Summer Olympics, describing the steps as necessary to meet medical and sporting standards for competition.
In an interview with L’Equipe, the 26 year old said the treatment was conducted under the supervision of a specialised medical team, with close follow up by a professor, and that her testosterone levels were adjusted to align with requirements for participation in Paris Olympic qualifying.
Khelif said her hormone levels were monitored throughout the preparation period, which she said helped her maintain balanced performance suited to competition conditions.
She said the treatment supported her physical readiness and ability to adapt to weight related demands, adding that the process was carried out using precise monitoring techniques to protect her health.
