Morocco ranked 66th worldwide in the 2026 global intelligence index, with an average score of 97.24, climbing two places from last year, according to results released by the International IQ Test.

The ranking is based on data collected from more than 1.2 million participants worldwide.

South Korea topped the global list with an average score of 106.97, followed by China, Japan and Iran. Somalia ranked last among 137 countries, with an average score of 83.84.

Among member states of the Arab League, Lebanon ranked highest, placing 41st globally with an average score of 99.13. It was followed by Syria, Qatar, Algeria, Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates. Oman ranked last among Arab countries, placing 111th globally with an average score of 92.18.

Globally, 27 countries recorded average IQ scores above the worldwide benchmark of 100, including Russia, Vietnam, the Netherlands and France. The remaining countries scored below the global average.

The official website of the International IQ Test attributed variations in national averages partly to population distribution. It noted that China alone accounted for about 17.2% of the world’s population last year and posted a relatively high average score of 107.19. Due to its population size, China has a significant impact on population-weighted global averages, offsetting the influence of countries with lower scores.

The platform also cited multiple factors contributing to differences in average IQ scores between countries, including health burdens such as exposure to infectious diseases. A 2010 study found that countries with higher health burdens often record lower IQ test results due to impacts on physical development and education.

Nutrition and food security were also highlighted as key factors. A 2024 study found that children who follow healthier diets tend to achieve higher IQ scores. Countries with stronger health systems, better nutrition, broader access to quality education and cognitively stimulating environments generally perform better in intelligence assessments, the platform said.
