Morocco warns GLP 1 drugs bought online pose real health risks, agency says

Morocco’s Agency for Medicines and Health Products has warned that buying GLP 1 medicines online can pose a “real danger” to public health, particularly when obtained without a prescription or used for purposes outside medical supervision.

The agency said these treatments, known as GLP 1 receptor agonists, are intended primarily for type 2 diabetes and for managing obesity under a doctor’s care, and that unsupervised use can expose patients to serious risks.

The alert comes as demand has risen for rapid weight loss and cosmetic use, a trend the agency said is feeding illegal online sales and increasing the risk of counterfeit or poorly handled products entering circulation. The agency urged patients and health professionals to remain vigilant and to report suspicious products and sales channels to the competent authorities.
