Brahim Diaz has earned his way into the history of Moroccan football by scoring in each of his first four matches at the Africa Cup of Nations (Morocco 2025).
The Real Madrid star is by far the only player to have accomplished such a feat, surpassing the late Moroccan legend Ahmed Faras, who scored three goals in as many matches during the 1976 AFCON.
Diaz’s remarkable run has also propelled him to the top of the provisional AFCON 2025 scorers’ chart, ahead of his national teammate Ayoub El Kaabi and Algeria captain Riyad Mahrez.
Four Matches, Four “Man of the Match” Titles
AFCON 2025 has also been marked by outstanding individual performances within the Moroccan national team. Several players have played decisive roles in the Atlas Lions’ successful campaign so far.
Across the first four matches of the tournament, Moroccan players have collected all four “Man of the Match” awards: Brahim Diaz twice, Neil El Aynaoui once, and Ayoub El Kaabi once.
While individual accolades stand out, these performances have been crucial to the collective strength of Walid Regragui’s side, which continues its steady march toward the ultimate goal.
63,894 Fans Roar for the Atlas Lions
The round-of-16 clash between Morocco and Tanzania entered the history books of AFCON 2025, setting a new attendance record for a single match in this edition. Played in an electrifying atmosphere, the encounter drew 63,894 spectators to the stadium.
This unprecedented turnout reflects the massive popular enthusiasm surrounding the tournament in Morocco and the deep bond between the fans and the Atlas Lions.
Mali Reach Quarterfinals Without a Win
Mali, meanwhile, have qualified for the AFCON quarterfinals without recording a single victory, an unusual scenario that highlights the competition’s format. “Les Aigles” (The Eagles) progressed after drawing all three group-stage matches, before eliminating Tunisia on penalties in the round of 16 following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
Through discipline, patience and tactical resilience, Mali managed to navigate their way into the last eight despite the absence of a win.
