The United Arab Emirates announced Tuesday withdrawning its remaining counterterrorism teams from Yemen, citing recent security developments and the need to ensure the safety of its personnel, according to an official statement from the Ministry of Defence.
The ministry said the move completes a drawdown process that began in 2019, when the UAE ended its direct military presence in Yemen after completing its objectives within the Saudi-led coalition. Since then, Emirati involvement had been limited to specialised counterterrorism units operating in coordination with international partners.
The statement said the UAE’s military engagement, launched in 2015, aimed to support Yemen’s internationally recognised government and combat terrorist groups, adding that the decision reflects a comprehensive assessment of current conditions and a continued commitment to regional stability.
