Defending Africa Cup of Nations champions Côte d’Ivoire started their title defence with a 1–0 victory over Mozambique on Wednesday at the Grand Stade de Marrakech in the Group F opener.
The Elephants took the lead in the second half through a goal by Amad Diallo, helping the reigning champions take early control of the group.
The result puts Côte d’Ivoire atop Group F ahead of later matches between Cameroon and Gabon.
The Elephants, who claimed the continental title in 2023, aimed for a strong start in Morocco as they seek to become the first team to retain the AFCON crown since Egypt in 2010.
The win gives Ivorian coach and players early momentum as the tournament, featuring 24 teams across Morocco, continues through January 2026.
