Patrice Motsepe, president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), held a special meeting with the referees assigned to officiate matches at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The meeting brought together on-field referees, assistant referees, and video assistant referees (VAR) from across the continent. Motsepe used the session to motivate and encourage the officials.
“The African whistle is the backbone of the tournament’s success and reflects the remarkable development of football across the continent,” Motsepe said, according to CAF’s official website.
He emphasized the need for absolute integrity and professionalism, underlining that CAF’s vision for refereeing is global in scope, prioritizing fairness and strict adherence to the rules of the game. Motsepe stressed that these standards are essential to uphold the tournament’s stature on the international stage.
