Rabat’s municipal authorities have approved extended opening hours for cafes, restaurants and commercial and service establishments, allowing them to operate until 2 a.m. as the capital prepares to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The exceptional schedule will take effect on Wednesday, Dec. 17, and remain in force until Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, the Rabat municipality said in a statement. The measure is part of broader preparations linked to the continental football tournament, which Morocco is set to host next year.
Municipal officials said the decision aims to accommodate the special atmosphere expected in the city during the competition, support local economic activity and enable traders and professionals to benefit from increased demand from fans and visitors.
Rabat is among the host cities for the tournament and has four stadiums approved to stage matches, according to municipal data. These include the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex, Prince Moulay Hassan Stadium, the City Stadium formerly known as Al Barid, and the Olympic Stadium.
The municipality did not specify whether additional regulatory or security measures would accompany the extended hours during the period.
