Morocco’s Ministry of Transport and Logistics on Tuesday urged transport professionals and road users to exercise extreme caution following a weather warning forecasting severe conditions on Dec. 16 and 17.
In a statement, the ministry said the alert predicts heavy and sometimes thundery rainfall, significant snowfall and strong winds in several parts of the country. It called on operators of public passenger transport, freight services and school transport, as well as all motorists, to strictly comply with traffic rules and adapt travel to weather and road conditions.
The ministry advised postponing non essential travel and urged drivers, particularly those operating buses and trucks, to closely monitor weather updates and road conditions before and during journeys.
It warned that the expected conditions increase the risk of road accidents and stressed the need to ensure vehicles are technically sound, adjust speed, keep safe distances and avoid sudden maneuvers. Drivers were also urged to take extra care on bridges and vulnerable road sections, follow official instructions and avoid crossing flooded waterways to protect lives on Morocco’s roads.
