Niger expressed strong support for the United Nations Security Council’s adoption of Resolution 2797 on Oct. 31, which recognizes Morocco’s autonomy plan for the Sahara as a serious, credible, and implementable basis for a political solution to the long-standing regional dispute.
Nigerien Foreign Minister Bakary Yao Sengari conveyed the country’s position Thursday during talks in Rabat with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita.
Sengari affirmed Niger’s full backing of UN Secretary-General António Guterres and his personal envoy in facilitating and guiding upcoming negotiations, based on Morocco’s autonomy proposal aimed at achieving a fair, lasting, and mutually acceptable settlement.
