Morocco recorded a sharp increase in lemon exports to the United Kingdom last season, reaching the highest level in 17 years despite a domestic price spike driven by drought and lower production. According to figures reported by EastFruit, Morocco exported around 1,200 tonnes of lemons to the UK between November 2024 and August 2025, generating 920,000 dollars in revenue.
The volume represents a more than forty fold increase compared with 2023 and exceeds the country’s total lemon exports to the UK over the past decade. The surge comes as Moroccan consumers faced unusually high prices for citrus products amid reduced harvests linked to water scarcity.
The latest export data confirms a renewed expansion in Morocco’s citrus trade with the UK market, which has grown more reliant on suppliers from North Africa following supply shifts in Europe and South America.
