As a native of Morocco’s southern provinces specifically the region of Smara, I, along with fellow citizens of these resilient lands, have closely followed the recent United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797 concerning the Moroccan Sahara. I state with clarity and conviction: this resolution represents a triumph of justice, a vindication of historical truth, and a reaffirmation of the legitimacy of Morocco’s position.
The resolution unequivocally endorses the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative, first proposed in 2007 under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. It affirms that autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty is the sole realistic, serious, and pragmatic solution to a conflict long sustained by political manoeuvring and obstructionism from opponents of Morocco’s territorial integrity.
Successive Security Council resolutions, culminating in this latest one, have sent a clear message: the era of political posturing is over. Morocco is in its Sahara, and the Sahara is in its Morocco.
As the parliamentary representative for Smara, I live daily among citizens whose loyalty and conduct embody the historic pledge of allegiance to the Alaouite Throne a bond internationally recognized in 1975 when the International Court of Justice affirmed the existence of allegiance ties between the Sultans of Morocco and the tribes of the Sahara.
That ruling was not merely a legal document; it was a global testament to the deep-rooted connection between the Sahara and Morocco. Territorial unity is not a political slogan it is a historical reality.
The Security Council’s resolution of October 31, 2025, is not only a reflection of growing international support but also a reaffirmation of the United States’ unwavering stance. The U.S. administration has reiterated its full endorsement of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, recognizing the Autonomy Initiative as a credible, serious, and realistic solution.
This support is no coincidence. The United States and Morocco share a longstanding friendship grounded in mutual respect and shared values. The principles of coexistence, peace, and democracy are foundational to Moroccan governance, and King Mohammed VI stands as a guarantor of these universal ideals that the United States itself seeks to promote globally, in opposition to extremist ideologies and outdated doctrines that have been eclipsed by the march of modernity and reform.
The American position, alongside that of numerous European, African, and Arab partner nations, constitutes a clear acknowledgment of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and a rejection of separatist narratives that have long lost relevance and credibility.
In response, we the people of the southern provinces, reaffirm our unwavering allegiance to the Alaouite Throne. From the heart of the Moroccan Sahara, we renew our pledge of loyalty to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful and descendant of the Prophet, who symbolizes national unity and guarantees sovereignty and stability.
We do not seek external validation of our Moroccan identity it is intrinsic to our being. What we ask is that the world listen to the voice of truth, echoed throughout history by the people of the Sahara: We are Moroccan, we remain Moroccan, and we shall die Moroccan.
Recent years have demonstrated that Morocco defends its cause not merely through rhetoric but through tangible achievements. Major development projects are underway in the Sahara: the Atlantic port in Dakhla, renewable energy stations, modern infrastructure, and employment opportunities for youth.
This is the Moroccan realism that has earned global respect and trust.
The latest Security Council resolution is not simply a diplomatic document, it is a pivotal moment that clearly declares autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty as the only viable solution. Any alternative is a wager on illusion.
As a son of this land, I proclaim with full voice: we shall not relinquish a single grain of sand from our Sahara. We shall not allow anyone to question our Moroccan identity. The Sahara has always been—and will always remain an integral part of our homeland. The Alaouite Throne is the eternal symbol of our unity.
