Moroccan researchers in digital and advanced technologies have praised the Interior Ministry’s move to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into the country’s security and administrative systems, describing it as a strategic shift toward a proactive, innovation-driven approach to national security.
Experts said the initiative allows authorities to leverage AI for analysis, forecasting, and data-driven decision-making, enhancing coordination among institutions and streamlining administrative processes.
“Digital transformation in the security sector is a strategic necessity,” they noted, “as the real challenge is using AI as a tool to serve citizens across all critical sectors.”
Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit recently told a parliamentary committee that the ministry is employing AI in information systems, digitizing administrative documents, equipping police with body cameras, and using drones to monitor vast areas, all aimed at preemptive crime prevention and improved accountability.
Researchers highlighted AI’s potential to monitor evolving criminal patterns, provide precise investigative tools, and secure sensitive data, particularly during major public events. They stressed that technology complements human expertise, ensuring decisions are accurate and responsible.
Analysts also noted the use of AI in stadium security, where smart cameras with facial and motion recognition track movements, prevent disorder, and identify social media-driven threats. They emphasized that the next stage will expand AI applications in predictive behavior analysis, video and image evaluation, and further integration of digital and security systems, balancing public safety with privacy protections.
