Morocco’s Minister of Islamic Affairs Ahmed Toufiq said Monday that 18 associations in Europe and Canada received a total of 105 million dirhams in financial support to strengthen religious guidance for Moroccans living abroad.
Addressing Parliament, Toufiq noted that the ministry’s program includes the creation of the Council of Moroccan Ulema for Europe, collaboration with embassies and mosque associations, and the deployment of 372 religious guides during Ramadan across nine countries.
The ministry also distributed 345,000 copies of the Qur’an to mosques and Islamic centers.
Toufiq added that a multilingual religious information program for Moroccans worldwide is in preparation and will be broadcast daily.
On domestic efforts, he reported 4,959 assessments and 901 mosque rehabilitation projects under the post-earthquake restoration program, costing 426 million dirhams, with 1,239 mosques reopened and 640 prayer halls set up to ensure continuity of worship in affected areas.
