The National Security officers at Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport apprehended on Saturday a 34-year-old Russian national who is subject to an international arrest warrant issued by the judicial authorities of the Russian Federation.
The suspect was intercepted upon arrival on a flight from Mauritania, a security source noted, adding that a check of his records in the Interpol database revealed that he is wanted internationally at the request of the Moscow National Central Bureau, to serve a prison sentence imposed by the Russian judiciary for his alleged membership in a terrorist organization.
The individual was placed in police custody as part of the extradition procedure under the instructions of the competent public prosecutor, while the Interpol National Central Bureau in Rabat, under the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), was tasked with notifying its counterpart in Russia about the arrest.
The arrest falls within the framework of the Moroccan security services’ commitment to implementing international security cooperation mechanisms, particularly regarding the tracking and apprehension of individuals wanted internationally for transnational crimes, according to the same source.
