A decisive meeting of the Morocco-Turkey joint technical committee is scheduled for next week to finalize a list of agricultural products under negotiation aimed at reducing Morocco’s growing trade deficit with Ankara, Hespress has learned.
According to informed sources, Morocco received an invitation from Turkey’s Ministry of Agriculture for an online session before a final agreement is expected to be signed in Istanbul later in November. Turkish authorities have reportedly shown flexibility toward increasing agricultural imports from Morocco, a move both sides have discussed for weeks.
Morocco, for its part, is insisting that trade talks include commitments for greater Turkish investment in Moroccan industries, particularly textiles, automotive manufacturing, and electronics, along with food processing. State Secretary for Foreign Trade Omar Hejira raised these points during his recent talks in Istanbul with Turkish Trade Minister Ömer Bolat on the sidelines of the Turkey-Africa Business and Economic Forum.
Sources also indicated that sugar exports may be among the key Moroccan products proposed for expansion. Despite a free trade agreement in place since 2004, Morocco’s imports from Turkey reached 39 billion dirhams in 2024, while exports remained at just 11.6 billion dirhams.
