The value of coastal and artisanal fishing products in Morocco reached nearly 8.2 billion dirhams by the end of September 2025, marking a 3 percent decrease compared to the same period in 2024, according to the National Fisheries Office (ONP).
In its latest report, the ONP said total landings amounted to 814,742 tonnes, down 13 percent year-on-year. The decline was mainly driven by lower catches of pelagic fish, cephalopods, and crustaceans, which dropped by 16, 17, and 9 percent respectively in volume. By contrast, shellfish landings surged by 1,241 percent to 599 tonnes, algae by 24 percent to 21,692 tonnes, and white fish by 11 percent to 91,291 tonnes.
In value terms, shellfish rose by 1,166 percent, algae by 30 percent, and white fish by 8 percent, while pelagic species, cephalopods, and crustaceans saw respective declines of 7, 5, and 3 percent.
By maritime zone, Mediterranean ports recorded a 5 percent increase in weight and a 3 percent rise in value, totaling 577 million dirhams. Atlantic ports, however, saw a 13 percent drop in volume to 802,172 tonnes and a 3 percent decline in value to 7.62 billion dirhams.
