The volume of coastal and artisanal fishing products landed at the port of Laayoune rose 56% in the first seven months of 2026, while their market value increased 21%, according to the National Fisheries Office.
The port recorded 141,780 tons of landed fishing products through the end of July, up from 90,658 tons during the same period in 2025. Their market value reached 1.1 billion Moroccan dirhams ($110 million), compared with 910.9 million dirhams a year earlier, according to the office’s latest report on Morocco’s coastal and artisanal fisheries.
Pelagic fish accounted for most of the increase, with landings rising 86% to 125,549 tons. Their value climbed 70% to 477.38 million dirhams, compared with 67,505 tons worth 281.57 million dirhams during the first seven months of 2025.
Whitefish landings, by contrast, fell 42% to 9,873 tons, while their value declined 21% to 175.34 million dirhams. The category recorded 16,975 tons worth 221.23 million dirhams during the same period last year.
Mollusk landings increased 3% to 6,336 tons, generating 446.24 million dirhams in revenue, up 10% from 407.03 million dirhams a year earlier.
Crustacean landings rose 32% to 22 tons, but their value fell 53% to 505,000 dirhams from 1.07 million dirhams during the same period in 2025.
Nationwide, marketed coastal and artisanal fishing landings reached 551,547 tons through the end of July, up 5% from the same period last year.
The value of those landings increased 2% to more than 6.28 billion dirhams, compared with 6.15 billion dirhams a year earlier.
The national figures cover fishing products landed along both Morocco’s Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts.
