African imports of Russian oil products surged in August to nearly 994,000 tons, with Morocco alone purchasing 188,000 tons, according to data published by the energy platform Inco.
The figure marks an increase of more than 50,000 tons compared with July, placing the Kingdom at the forefront of African demand. Egypt also doubled its purchases to 141,000 tons, while Tunisia imported 127,000 tons.
Globally, Russian diesel exports fell 3 percent to 3.8 million tons, reflecting reduced supplies to major clients Brazil and Turkey, whose imports dropped by 24 and 1 percent respectively. At the same time, shipments to Asia climbed to over 542,000 tons, nearly half directed to China.
Despite lower flows to its traditional markets, Russia boosted overall exports between January and August by 8 percent to 32 million tons, largely driven by growing African demand, Inco reported.
