Morocco has disbursed 40.5 billion dirhams in direct aid since the launch of the social support program in December 2023, according to the ministerial committee overseeing the reform of the social protection system.
The update came during a meeting chaired by Head of government Aziz Akhannouch on September 16 in Rabat.
Government data show that as of August 2025, around 4 million families benefit from direct transfers, 60% of them in rural areas. The program covers 5.5 million children and 1.3 million seniors, while 1.8 million families received exceptional back-to-school assistance for 3.2 million students.
The rollout of universal health coverage has also accelerated, with beneficiaries of compulsory health insurance rising from 8.6 million in 2021 to 24.3 million by the end of 2024.
Challenges remain, particularly regarding contribution collection, as 4 million families, 11 million people , now benefit from the solidarity health scheme “AMO-Tadamon.”
