Police in Fez have arrested four people, including a company manager, a notary and two intermediaries, on suspicion of belonging to a criminal network that defrauded Moroccans seeking jobs abroad, authorities said Sunday.
The suspects allegedly lured victims with promises of overseas employment, offering fake job contracts through an employment agency run by the main suspect, according to a police statement.
Victims were charged up to 50,000 dirhams ($4,900), and the contracts were notarized by the arrested notary.
Coordinated police operations across Fez, Meknes, Sefrou and Imouzzer led to the arrests. Investigators seized counterfeit work contracts, receipts of money transfers from dozens of alleged victims, identity documents, passports, computer equipment and stamps used in the scheme.
The four suspects remain in custody under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office, pending further investigation into the scope of the fraud and the full number of victims.
