Moroccan civil society groups and political organizations announced their participation in the upcoming Global Solidarity Flotilla aiming to challenge Israel’s blockade on Gaza, organizers confirmed this week.

The initiative, which includes the Maghreb Solidarity Flotilla, will sail alongside the long-established Freedom Flotilla Coalition and the Southeast Asian initiative Sumoud Nusantara, in a bid to deliver humanitarian support and highlight the plight of Palestinian civilians under siege.

According to the Working Group for Palestine, the Moroccan delegation’s involvement reflects a “national, Arab, and humanitarian responsibility” to stand with Gaza’s residents, who face what the group described as “genocide and starvation policies.”

Organizers stressed that this participation addresses logistical shortcomings of earlier attempts that had stalled at Egyptian ports, noting that the upcoming convoy will navigate international waters directly to Gaza’s shores.

The Party of Progress and Socialism said in a mobilization call to its members that dozens of ships are preparing to depart from ports in Europe and Africa, notably Spain and Tunisia.

Sources added that the Moroccan delegation seeks to “break Gaza’s isolation, expose international complicity in war crimes, and reaffirm the enduring place of the Palestinian cause in Moroccan and Maghrebian public consciousness.”

Abdelhafid Sriti, national coordinator of the Working Group for Palestine, said organizers expect up to 1,000 ships to head toward Gaza from departure points across Europe, Asia, and North Africa.

Moroccan participation will be led by coalitions such as the Moroccan Front for Supporting Palestine and Against Normalization, bringing together political parties, rights groups, and civic associations.

Rachid Filali, national coordinator of the Moroccan Initiative for Support and Advocacy, emphasized that “while governments remain passive, peoples are taking the initiative themselves to confront starvation and mass killing,” adding that Morocco’s long history of solidarity with Palestine underscores the symbolic weight of its presence.

Organizers stressed that this edition of the flotilla will be more streamlined than previous efforts, with European guarantees for participants, unified coordination across continents, and routes through international waters.

They argued that beyond its logistical dimension, the mission carries significant symbolic value amid what they described as the international community’s failure to halt Israel’s daily bombardment and siege of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents.
