Kazakhstan’s imports of Moroccan-made clothing rose about 12% in the first five months of 2025, reaching roughly 89 tons out of a total of more than 57,000 tons of apparel imported during the period, according to data compiled by Kazakh economic news outlet LS.

Overall, Kazakhstan’s clothing imports fell more than 20% year-on-year from January to May, totaling over $685 million in value. Imports of jackets, trousers, dresses and skirts dropped by nearly half to around 10,000 tons.

China and Turkey remained the country’s top suppliers despite declines in their shipments, while imports from Russia plunged more than fivefold. By contrast, imports from Bangladesh jumped nearly 31% and those from Morocco rose 12%.

Kazakhstan imported about 1,000 tons of clothing from Bangladesh and 89 tons from Morocco. Other suppliers included Vietnam and Italy, providing dresses, trousers, jackets and suits for the local market.

The LS report noted that clothing prices in Kazakhstan rank among the highest compared to neighboring and even some distant countries. A pair of jeans costs on average around 36,000 tenge ($66), while men’s leather shoes average about 49,500 tenge ($91).

In some cases, the cost of clothing and footwear in Kazakhstan exceeds prices in neighboring states and even in advanced economies, placing a burden on household budgets, the outlet said.
