Moroccan delegation becomes latest to vsit Israel amid Gaza crisis

A Moroccan youth delegation visited Israel last weekend and was received at the offices of the Atidna Association in Haifa, an Israeli nonprofit focusing on Arab-Jewish cooperation, according to a statement posted on the group’s official Facebook page.

“We received at the offices of the Atidna Association in Haifa a distinguished delegation from the Kingdom of Morocco, on a visit aimed at getting to know the association’s work model and its profound impact in building a leadership generation within the Arab community in Israel,” the statement said.

The delegation’s visit comes against the backdrop of a devastating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where an Israeli blockade has severely restricted the entry of critical aid.

Gaza’s health services are near collapse, and food shortages have contributed to the deaths of more than 120 people from hunger, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

During the visit, the delegation learned about the association’s milestones and accomplishments. “We reviewed milestones of our journey, accomplishments we are proud of, and initiatives that have made a real difference in the lives of thousands of young people,” the statement said.

The meeting also focused on “the importance of empowering youth and connecting Arab communities worldwide through education and social innovation,” with Atidna noting that “the visit was an inspiring visit carrying messages of hope, partnership, and a shared future.”

Founded by Arab citizens of Israel alongside Jewish members from the Zionist nationalist camp, Atidna defines itself as a nonprofit organization seeking to “establish an Arab-Jewish partnership based on mutual respect and full civil equality within Israel as a Jewish and democratic state,” and to “build a strong Arab society proud of its culture and heritage, integrated within Israeli society,” according to the group’s website.

Vsits by Moroccan nationals to Israel amid the ongoing Gaza conflict have drawn widespread criticism in Morocco.

Anti-normalization groups and supporters of the Palestinian cause condemn these trips as betrayals of Palestinian struggles and provocations to Moroccan public sentiment.

They argue such visits are not genuine cultural exchanges but attempts to “promote normalization and whitewash Israel’s image despite its ongoing crimes in Gaza.”
