Morocco’s women’s football team will face Nigeria this Saturday at Rabat’s Olympic Stadium in their second consecutive final of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), aiming for their first-ever continental title.
Facing Nigeria will be a major challenge. The Super Falcons are aiming for their tenth AFCON crown and are also motivated by a desire for revenge, having been eliminated by Morocco in the semifinals of the previous edition.
After finishing as runners-up in the last tournament, the Moroccan team is determined to go one step further this time and bring the trophy.
The Lionesses will have to rely on their accumulated experience, which has earned them a place among Africa’s top teams. Their recent record includes a World Cup participation and a previous AFCON final.
Despite recent successes, the Moroccan players remain fully aware of the challenge ahead and the strength of their opponents. Nigeria, with nine titles to their name, are a powerhouse of the women’s game in Africa and are looking to restore their dominance.
Morocco topped Group A with a draw against Zambia (2-2) and wins over DR Congo (4-2) and Senegal (1-0). They reached the final after defeating Mali 3-1 in the quarterfinals and edging out Ghana in the semis on penalties (4-2) after a 1-1 draw following extra time.
In preparation for the final, the CAF announced on Thursday that Namibian referee Antsino Twanyanyukwa will officiate the match. She will be assisted by Alice Umutesi (Rwanda) and Tabara Mbodji (Senegal).
