Four Moroccan researchers have been ranked among the top 200 most influential scientists worldwide in the 2025 Academic Development Index (AD Index), which assessed over 1.1 million profiles using scientometric indicators like the h-index.
Topping the national list is Abdeslam Hoummada of Hassan II University in Casablanca, ranked 40th globally with an h-index of 281 and over 392,000 citations, notably for his work at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider.
He is followed by Driss Benchakroun (131st globally), also of Hassan II University, with an h-index of 252 and contributions to quantum computing and nuclear physics.
Farida El Fassi, from Mohammed V University in Rabat, became the first Moroccan woman in the global top 200, ranked 169th with an h-index of 247. Rajaa Cherkaoui El Moursli, also of Mohammed V, ranks 182nd for her work in medical physics.
Six other Moroccan scientists were also listed in the national top ten, spanning fields from electrochemistry to sustainable agriculture.
