The National Agency for Water and Forests (ANEF) issued its latest Forest Fire Risk Bulletin on Monday for the period from July 15 to 18, raising alarm over severe wildfire threats in several Moroccan provinces.
Using advanced scientific models that analyze forest types, flammability, climate forecasts, and topographical features, the agency identified an extreme fire risk in Chefchaouen, Taounate, and Taza, three provinces in northern Morocco.
A high risk warning extends to Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, Al Hoceima, Béni Mellal, Essaouira, Fahs-Anjra, Khénifra, Larache, M’diq-Fnideq, Ouezzane, Tanger-Assilah, and Tétouan.
A moderate risk level applies to Berkane, Driouch, Ifrane, Kénitra, Khémisset, Nador, Rabat, Salé, Sidi Slimane, Skhirate-Témara, and Taourirt.
The agency urged residents, tourists, and forest workers to exercise maximum vigilance and take all necessary precautions to avoid any fire outbreaks.
It also called on citizens to promptly report smoke or suspicious behavior near forests to local authorities.
