Coastal and artisanal fishing landings in Mediterranean ports reached 8,158 tonnes in first the half of 2025, representing a 13% year-on-year increase, according to the National Fisheries Office (ONP).
The value of these landings were up by 15%, amounting to more than MAD 391.34 million at the end of June 2025, against MAD 340.31 million a year earlier, the ONP said in its recent report on the coastal and artisanal fishing statistics in Morocco.
By species, landings of pelagic fish located on the coast from Tangier to Saidia, rose by 15% in the first six months of 2025 to 3,157 tonnes, for an estimated value of around MAD 92.40 million (+15%), against over MAD 80.11 million (2,757 tonnes ) at the end of June 2024.
For white fish, landings reached 1,323 tonnes by the end of June, up 6%, exceeding MAD 52.23 million (+4%), compared to MAD 50.34 million (1,243 tonnes) year-on-year.
Cephalopod landings rose by 15% to 2,983 tonnes, generating revenues of over MAD 201.06 million (+18%). Meanwhile, crustacean landings rose by 3% to 589 tonnes, bringing in more than 44.17 million dirhams (+13%).
At the national level, landings of marketed coastal and artisanal fishery products reached 391,353 tonnes by the end of June, down 17% compared to the same period last year. The value of these landings stagnated at over MAD 4.81 billion.
