The Arab Parliament strongly condemned recent statements by Israeli officials, including a call by Israel’s Justice Minister to annex the occupied West Bank and impose Israeli sovereignty over it.
In a statement published Thursday on the parliament’s official Facebook page, Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi said the remarks represent a “blatant violation of international law and United Nations resolutions” and a dangerous attempt to undermine efforts toward a just and comprehensive peace based on a two-state solution.
“These statements reflect the colonial, expansionist policies pursued by the occupying power,” Al Yamahi said, denouncing ongoing Israeli actions in the West Bank, including home demolitions, settler violence, arbitrary arrests, expansion of illegal settlements, and the displacement of civilians.
He also condemned what he described as a “genocidal war” by Israeli forces in Gaza, aimed at destroying all aspects of Palestinian life and erasing their national presence.
Al Yamahi warned that Israel’s policies are entrenching “a system of apartheid and domination,” asserting that attempts to create new facts on the ground by force will not alter the legal status of Palestinian territories nor legitimize the occupation.
He called on the international community, especially the United Nations and the Security Council, to assume their legal and humanitarian responsibilities by taking urgent action to halt systematic Israeli violations, hold perpetrators accountable, and provide international protection for the Palestinian people.
Al Yamahi reaffirmed the Arab Parliament’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the right to self-determination, the right of return, and the establishment of an independent sovereign state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
